Junior Church

Each Sunday during our 10.00 a.m. Eucharist there is a separate Junior Church for children of all ages. In Junior Church, our children enjoy all sorts of activities such as stories, crafts, discussions and art work, usually related to the Sunday theme in the main service. Towards the end of the service, the children come into church to share their work with the whole congregation, and usually lead us in a prayer they have written. All our Junior Church leaders have been CRB checked and parents are very welcome to stay in with their children if they wish. They can even join in with the fun! From time to time we arrange trips out and other events for our children.

Church Yard

St. Matthews has a large Church Yard which we keep in a tidy condition where people with relations buried there can come and spend time in tranquil surroundings. We have two major Church Yard “clean up” days per year where members of the public come and help, but the day to day work tends to be done by Church members, although volunteers of help of any kind are always very welcome.

Walk of Witness

Walk of Witness is done twice a year. At Easter we carry a fairly heavy cross through the streets of Donnington to the War Memorial in Winifred’s Drive, stopping on the way for a Bible reading. On Remembrance Day we carry the Processional Cross with the Acolytes to the War Memorial for a service of remembrance. These acts of witness show to the people of Donnington that Jesus Christ exists through us.

Outreach Activities

A Resource Day was held at Cordingley Hall, Donnington. Where we invited all different groups in the parish, e.g. Army, Parish Council, Police, Scouts and Guides, Line dancing, the Local library and of course a Church display. This was well presented day and by the actions of the public everyone had a fantastic day. We as God’s family were able to publicise our work of growing his Kingdom.

A Children’s Day was held at Turreff Hall, Donnington. Members of our Church put on displays and activities for the Children. About fifty children enjoyed a well presented day.

Harvest of Talents was held in the Church, where members of the Church and the public were invited to bring along to the Church, their talents. It was a good display which bought a lot of new faces to Church.

Pageant of St. Matthew service and display was held in the Church.

Sir Gordon Richards, a celebration and praise service, with displays was held in the Church. This was to commemorate the centenary of his birth. Sir. Gordon attended our Church also as a server. Quite a few new faces came to this special service.

All our yesterdays’ service and display was held in the Church.

We deliver leaflets through the doors of Donnington and Donnington Wood to show the work and love of Jesus Christ through our Church.

Retreat days out that give us inspiration and encouragement. We find it a time to relax and switch of for a few from all the problems around us.

All Souls night service, with a Requiem Eucharist. This is a very emotional service. This was attended by many people who were invited to take part in this moving service. The names of the recently departed were read out and a candle was lit.

Outreach Meetings

Are held regularly in the Church to plan our future activities. The meetings are based on prayer and fellowship, so that we can reach to the public of Donnington and Donnington Wood all in the name of Jesus Christ.
